We have a winner!

19th annual dead radio contest

In these improbable times, we just had our most unique winner

in the history of the Dead Radio Contest.

Scott Dahl not only had the winning script, but he wrote the third place script too.

With the completion of our contest at hand and the industry mostly shutdown,

we pushed forward and finished the winning spot.

Read and listen below to see how it all came together.

First place winner

Writer: Scott Dahl and Jim McLarty

Agency: Periscope/MN

Title: "Homemade Easy: Call"

Client: Schwan's Home Service

Using a NY Studio as our hub,

we used Zoom and Source Connect to record the winning spot.

Dan Price directed the session via Zoom from home near Philadelphia.

Rex Recker engineered the session from Digital Arts in NYC.

Our contest winner, Scott Dahl, joined the session from home in Minneapolis.

Columbia McCaleb was our announcer from home in Brooklyn.

Danielle Guldin recorded from her home studio in NYC.

Doug Ballard recorded from his home studio in Montrose, NY.

Second place

Writer: Daniel Jordan

Agency: Saatchi & Saatchi/NY

Client: Oral-B

Title: "Dentist Office"

SFX: Ambient sounds of a busy dentist’s office, we hear dentist office music, crying kids, office phones, dental equipment, etc.

AVO: The Oral-B electric toothbrush features a round brush head that surrounds each tooth giving you a powerful clean. It’s like visiting the dentist every day, minus…that lame Dentist office music

SFX: The music goes away.

AVO: The crying kid next to you in the waiting room.

SFX: The crying kid noise goes away.

AVO: That suctiony thing… what’s that even called?

SFX: The suction tool noise goes away.

AVO: And the Hygienist discussing her new Keto diet…

SFX: The hygienist vocals disappear.

AVO: Which all leaves you with this:

SFX: Oral-B Electric toothbrush

AVO: Oral-B electric toothbrush. For that just from the dentist feeling in your own home. Oral-B. Brush like a pro.

third place

Writer: Scott Dahl and Chris Bluma

Agency: Periscope/MN

Client: Minnesota Lottery

Title: "Carpool"

ANNCR:

You know what’s exciting? Playing the Minnesota Lottery.

You know what’s not exciting? Carpooling with librarians.

SFX: Car door opens and shuts.

RIDER: Good morning everybody…

LIBRARIANS: Shhhhhhh!

SFX: Awkward long silence with car idle.

ANNCR: If you’re game for a little excitement, just play some scratch games.

ANNCR: Minnesota Lottery. I’MN. Must be 18 or older to play.
